In order to achieve high capacity and high data integrity, AIT uses only Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) tape technology, which provides the exceptional capacity, virtually contamination-free environment, and head/media reliability of AIT products. This unique metal evaporation method, by which pure metal (cobalt) material is vaporized and deposited directly on the base film, results in virtually 100% magnetic material. This tape is smoother and more durable than conventional tape, which contains a painted-on magnetic particle coating with only 50% active magnetic material. The resultant magnetic domains for AME are also much smaller than conventional media and permit a much higher areal recording density and cartridge capacities. AME's "Diamond-Like Carbon" (DLC) coating provides the extraordinary durability and reliability characteristics that enable leadership achievements in AIT head life (50,000 hours), media uses (30,000) and reduced drive maintenance.
